The Veggie Hotline
Matt just called me on the veggie hotline. The Cherry Grovers must be harvesting in the rain right now. I have to post this quickly so I can steal an hour and read the new Harry Potter before I have to go to work. But before I go, looks like this week we're getting good stuff to throw on the grill: Peppers, squash, beets, onions.

Week Seven: July 17 and July 19
Two big announcements this week. Matt is distributing tomatoes for the first time this season. I don't think the heirlooms are ready yet, though it would be a great treat if they were. Regardless, the standard tomatoes Matt grows are delicious and I eat them like apples. (I'll probably eat one before I can get my bags into the car.)
Now, you probably thought tomatoes were the biggest news I had. Attention: Matt's a new father! His son's name is Ethan and everyone is healthy and happy. I've heard Ethan has a shock of black hair and looks more than a little like his dad. I'll try and get a picture up here soon.

Week Four: Broccoli
Fresh broccoli is so good and Matt gives us so much of it. Because I hate to waste even one floret, I tend make a lot of cream of broccoli soup and freeze it. This is an especially good idea for the fall broccoli harvest, but it still works in the summer and makes for a quick meal. I improvise the recipe based on what I have in the fridge, but I'll try and cobble one together and post it here soon. Leave a comment and let other members know how you're cooking your broccoli.
